French master Alain Resnais' “Life of Riley” to close Montreal Film Fest

As an homage to the late French auteur, the Montreal World Film Festival on Friday, July 11 said it will close its upcoming 38th edition with Alain Resnais' last film, Life of Riley (Aimer, boire et chanter), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, which screened in Berlin, will receive a North American premiere in Montreal.

"By showing Aimer, boire et chanter, we hope to pay posthumous tribute of one of the giants of French cinema in the name of all who loved his work," festival president Serge Losique said Friday in a statement.

Life of Riley marks Resnais' third adaptation of a work by British playwright Alan Ayckbourn.

The ensemble film, which follows the travails of three sets of partners living not-so-happily in the Yorkshire countryside, stars Sabine Azema, Hippolyte Girardot, Sandrine Kiberlain and Andre Dussollier.

The Montreal festival will announce shortly which talent will appear during the screening of Life of Riley this summer.

The Montreal World Film Festival is set to run from August 21 to Sept. 1, 2014.
