“Beatles” a coming-of-age tale based on Lars Saabye Christensen’s bestseller, is set to open the 42th Norwegian Intl. Film Festival in Haugesund, Variety said.

“Like the novel, (‘Beatles’) is a spot-on portrait of an age. It is a humorous and sensitive story about teenager insecurity and yearning,” said program director Håkon Skogrand. “Virtually everyone who was young during the 1960s, who has been it since, and who is young today, will be able to identify with and enjoy this adaptation of Saabye Christensen’s universe. I really look forward to open this year’s festival with ‘Beatles.’”

Pic is directed by Dane Peter Flinth, who presented “Arn – The Kingdom at the End of the Road” in 2008.

Saabye Christensen’s novel follows the adventures of four Beatles fans who grew up in the ’60s in Oslo and formed a rock band. It stars Peter Gantzler, Susanne Boucher, Jonathan Chedeville and Tomas Borg Henriksen.

“Beatles” is produced for Jørgen Storm Rosenberg at StormRosenberg. Rosenberg told Variety he will soon attach a French co-producer and a sales agent to the movie. The producer, who is looking for a U.S. or U.K. agent, secured music clearance for all Beatles original recordings via Sony/ATV Music Publishing and EMI Music Nordics.

SF Norge will distribute “Beatles” in Norway on Aug. 29.

The Norwegian fest will take place Aug. 16-22.
