Oscars “may not accept” Andy Serkis, Gary Oldman says

The cast and crew of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes have spoken to Digital Spy about Andy Serkis's chances of winning an Oscar nomination for playing Caesar, the entertainment news agency reported.

The Lord of the Rings star portrays the ape rebellion leader through cutting-edge performance capture technology, but co-star Gary Oldman cast doubt on Academy voters embracing the form.

"He's mentioned [in contention]," Oldman said. "There isn't a review that hasn't said how wonderful he is. The audiences and critics acknowledge the work, I just don't know if it's the sort of thing that the Academy will accept."

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is showing in cinemas now.
