Jake Gyllenhaal as job-obsessed crime journalist in "Nightcrawler" trailer

"You have to make the money to buy a ticket" is the principle that Jake Gyllenhaal holds on to in "Nightcrawler". First trailer of the Open Road Films pic has been released to reveal a freelance crime journalist in Los Angeles who becomes obsessed with his job, AceShowbiz said.

Gyllenhaal tries to convince a TV boss that he is a driven man and a perfect candidate for the night job. "I believe good things come to those who work their asses off," his character Lou Bloom says in the trailer. But Lou appears to be more than what he said, tinkering with crime scenes just to get the shot he wanted.

"The Bourne Legacy" screenwriter Dan Gilroy makes his directorial debut in the movie that also stars Rene Russo and Bill Paxton. Gyllenhaal produces the film along with Jennifer Fox, Tony Gilroy, Bold Films' chairman Michel Litvak and David Lancaster.

"Nightcrawler" will premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this fall and open in U.S. theaters on October 17.
