Karabakh tensions add to volatile security environment: Swedish FM

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt voiced concerns over escalation of tensions in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.

“Rising conflict and death toll between Azerbaijan and Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh adds to an already most volatile security environment,” he tweeted.

Earlier, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the recent tensions, saying, “France is concerned about the increase by violent incidents at the contact line of the Nagorno Karabakh and the Armenian-Azerbaijani border that caused casualties in recent days.”

“The Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be resolved through negotiations. France calls on all parties to respect the ceasefire and take immediate steps to reduce tensions and avoid further incidents,” the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said that “although the situation is tensed, there is no reason for large-scale hostilities.”

“The Azerbaijani leaders, who are responsible for the casualties on both sides, can undertake new attempts to escalate tensions. However, there are no reasons for a war,” he said.
