Hackers target Twitch following Amazon acquisition

Twitch was targeted by hackers following the announcement that Amazon is to acquire the gaming video network, Digital Spy reported.

The streaming platform was briefly taken offline after being hit by a denial of service attack courtesy of the Lizzard Squad, the same group responsible for the latest PlayStation Network hack.

It is unclear why Amazon's buyout has seen Twitch fall victim to a cyber attack, with reports suggesting that the organisation responsible objects to the commercialisation of the platform.

Amazon paid $970 million for Twitch, which was expected to be acquired by Google earlier this year.

The games streaming service recently implemented a new system under which copyrighted audio will be muted.

It also removed its 'save forever' option to increase default rolling storage for past broadcasts from 72 hours to a maximum of 14 days.
