Sundance Selects has picked up the U.S. and Latin American rights to Seymour: An Introduction, the new documentary directed by Ethan Hawke, which will have its world premiere Saturday, August 30 at the Telluride Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Hawke’s non-fiction directorial debut, the doc profiles pianist Seymour Bernstein, who started playing the piano as a little boy and by age 15 began teaching it to others.

The film, which is also scheduled to play the Toronto and New York Film Festivals, was produced by Greg Loser and Heather Smith of Room 5 Films and Ethan and Ryan Hawke of Under The Influence Productions.

"We have had the great fortune of working with Ethan throughout his career, going back to his directorial debut Chelsea Walls and most recently with Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. We are thrilled to continue our relationship with his absolutely charming first documentary feature,” Jonathan Sehring, president of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said.


The deal was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, senior vp of acquisitions and Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with John Sloss of Cinetic Media on behalf of the filmmakers.
