Locarno Film Fest winner “Unlikely Heroes” sells to Germany, Austria

Berlin-based sales house M-appeal has sold Peter Luisi’s “Unlikely Heroes” which won the audience award at the Locarno film festival, to MFA/Koch for theatrical release in Germany and Austria, Variety reported.

Film centers on Swiss woman Sabine, who is having a tough time at Christmas — her husband has left her, things aren’t going well at work, and her kids are away. She decides to volunteer at a refugee camp, preparing a play with the residents in time for New Year’s Day.

The pic is produced by Switzerland’s Spotlight Media Prods., and is co-produced with Schweizer Radio und Fernsehen. It stars Esther Gemsch, Karim Rahoma, Komi Togbonou, Klaus Wildbolz, Newroz Baz and Elvis Clausen.
