Nagorno Karabakh hands over teenage trespasser to Azerbaijan

The authorities of Nagorno Karabakh have handed over to Azerbaijan underage citizen Javid Samiroglu Muzafarzade who was detained during an attempt to cross the border to Artsakh on Friday, September 4.

According to the Nagorno Karabakh State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, Muzafarzade, aged 15 was returned to Azerbaijan with the assistance of the ICRC mission in Stepanakert.

The handover took place September 11 in the village of Bash Karvend at the Nagorno Karabakh-Azerbaijani border.

In mid-August, Armenia’s Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons announced plans to apply to international instances, including the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), over the death of 31-year-old Armenian citizen Karen Petrosyan in the Azerbaijani captivity, commission member Zaruhi Hakobyan said.

Petrosyan ‘died suddenly’ in Baku, after what Azerbaijan said was a cardiovascular collapse. The resident of Armenian border village of Chinari (Tavush province) was captured as he presumably lost his way and crossed the border when searching for wood. According to some Armenian media reports, Petrosyan often drank to excess.

Azerbaijan branded Petrosyan, who can hardly read and write, a saboteur.
