Google adds new info snippets to web searches

Google has added new information snippets to web searches, Digital Spy said.

The so-called Structured Snippets shows additional details and facts below search results.

For example, if you search Superman, the creators, first appearance and place of origin are displayed, extracted from the Wikipedia page.

The feature is still in its early days at the moment, with only some searches bringing up content, depending on the information's origin.

"We use machine learning techniques to distinguish data tables on the Web from uninteresting tables, eg tables used for formatting web pages," the company explained.

"We also have additional algorithms to determine quality and relevance that we use to display up to four highly ranked facts from those data tables."
