Samsung is reportedly pulling out of the laptop business within Europe.

As Digital Spy reveals citing PC Advisor, the company will no longer sell Ativ Windows and Chromebook devices in the region due to the overall PC market decline.

In a statement, the South Korean firm said: "We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of laptops including Chromebooks for now.

"This is specific to the region - and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets. We will continue to thoroughly evaluate market conditions and will make further adjustments to maintain our competitiveness in emerging PC categories."

Samsung follows in the steps of Sony, which sold off its Vaio brand earlier this year.

Laptops were also noticeably missing from the IFA trade show in Berlin this year.

Meanwhile, Samsung is under increasing pressure in the smartphone market, as Apple enters the phablet territory with the release of the iPhone 6 Plus. Shares in the company fell after 10 million iPhones were sold over the weekend, dropping to their lowest price since July 2012.

The success of the iPhones has reportedly forced Samsung to bring the release date of its Galaxy Note 4 forward.
