Fayed Mustafa, Palestinian ambassador to Russia, has confirmed that the next round of peace talks between the Palestinian Autonomy and Israel will be held late October, RIA Novosti reported.

"Yes, we confirm that a round of indirect talks between Palestine and Israel ended yesterday in Cairo. There was an agreement to resume talks in the second half of October," the ambassador said Wednesday, Sept 24.

He also stressed the importance of Palestinian president speech at the UN General assembly on Sept 26.

"He will speak about the steps we are taking to resolve the conflict between Israel and Palestine. I think our president is making a lot of efforts in New York now, and he is meeting with [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov today," Mustafa said.

"He [the president] will explain what our next steps will be, how we view the conflict, what the international community should do to solve the conflict," he added.

The 69th Regular Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 69) convened at the UN Headquarters on September 16, the general debate opened on Tuesday.

UNGA 69 is expected to bring together about 90 heads of state, 50 prime ministers and deputy prime ministers and 40 ministers of foreign affairs. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, whose speech is scheduled for Sept 27, heads the Russian delegation.
