Armenia-EU prospects to clear up after EEU accession: German envoy

Armenia’s prospects with the EU ties will clear up after the former's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, German envoy said.

"Despite non-signing of the association agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius, Armenia announced readiness to maintain ties with Europe," Reiner Morell told reporters.

"Europe is waiting for Armenia to decide on its course with Europe. Afterwards it will be easier to determine format of these ties," Novosti Armenia quoted the envoy as saying.

On said Thursday, Oct 2 he Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that more states would join the Eurasian Economic Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus in future.

Addressing the participants of Russia Calling investment forum Putin said the process of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union was about to be completed, while the dialogue with Kyrgyzstan, another country seeking to join the EEU, continues.

Armenia is expected to join formally the Russia-led union on October 10 at a summit of the bloc’s heads of state in Minsk, Belarus.
