"The Purge" high-grossing horror 3rd sequel in the works

Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes are officially moving on with the third "The Purge" film. It's inevitable because the first two movies were made at just over $10 million combined but together they have grossed over $200 million worldwide.

As AceShowbiz said citing Deadline, director and writer James DeMonaco will return to direct the third installment. Once again the film will chronicle the one night of the year when all sorts of crime are legal. The police can't be called. Hospitals suspend help. It's one night when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment.

"I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become," DeMonaco told Deadline, "and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise."

Sebastian Lemercier, Blumhouse Productions' Jason Blum, Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will be producers. Blumhouse Productions recently made a 10-year studio deal with Universal Pictures.
