Paris, Berlin hope for progress in France-hosted Sargsyan-Aliyev talks

Paris and Berlin hope for progress in Karabakh talks at France-hosted meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders.

As French envoy Henri Raynaud told journalists, France hopes the meeting to contribute to the Nagorno Karabakh peace process. As he noted, quoting President Francois Hollande, it’s important to stimulate a dialogue between the conflicting parties, as well as develop documents promoting trust-building and observation of ceasefire to stop deaths at the frontline.

He further stressed the importance of the 3 basic principles in Karabakh conflict settlement, with the Paris talks to focus on the formers.

German envoy Reiner Morell, in turn, stressed that a progress in the Karabakh settlement in impossible without the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders’ meeting. “It’s important that the decision-making figures meet. Despite animosity on both sides, the meetings are still useful: it was due to those that the situation has been maintained for 20 years,” Aysor.am quoted the ambassador as saying.
