India Eisley to topline “The Curse of Sleeping Beauty”

Underworld: the Awakening actress India Eisley is in final talks to star in indie The Curse of Sleeping Beauty, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film is based on the Brothers Grimm classic, but has a dark, modern twist. Eisley will play the titular role of Sleeping Beauty, aka Briar Rose.

Pearry Teo will direct and produce the project, which is also produced by Bleiberg Entertainment's Ehud Bleiberg and executive produced by Nicholas Donnermeyer. A concurrent comic book is also being developed by illustrator Everett Hartsoe, who recently relaunched his series Razor with Jeff Most.

“When working on creating this specific vision of Sleeping Beauty, it's always been my intention to try something that's never been seen before," says Teo. "We're drawing on varied things like Silent Hill, Pan's Labyrinth, The Cell and Insidious for inspiration, but we are creating something that will be very unique, both visually and in terms of storytelling."

Teo's previous films, including Dracula: The Dark Prince and Dead Inside, are dark films with fantasy elements, so The Curse of Sleeping Beauty should fit in easily with his style.

Eisley starred in the popular ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and most recently appeared in Kite with Samuel L. Jackson and Underworld: Awakening. Her upcoming projects include the Romeo and Juliet-inspired film Social Suicide and indie Sitter Cam.
