Baku hands over Armenian captive’s body

Baku handed over the body of Karen Petrosyan, who died in Azeri captivity, to Armenia.

The handover was conducted by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing People and the Defense Ministry through the International Committee of the Red Cross in Bala Jafarli village of Gazakh region on October 10, Azeri media reported.

ICRC Office in Yerevan confirmed the report.

Petrosyan ‘died suddenly’ in Baku, after what Azerbaijan said was a cardiovascular collapse. A resident of Armenian border village of Chinari (Tavush province), the 31-year-old was captured in early August.

Being not sober, he presumably lost his way and crossed the border when searching for wood. According to some Armenian media reports, Petrosyan often drank to excess.

Azerbaijan branded Petrosyan, who can hardly read and write, a saboteur.
