PlayStation 2 has been voted the best ever console by Amazon shoppers, Digital Spy said.

Beginning back in August, users were given the option to nominate their favorite systems before a 16-console bracket was drawn up.

PlayStation 2 defeated Wii U, PS3 and then Nintendo 64 in the semis on its way to the final. It then beat the original PlayStation to seal the title.

The original PlayStation beat Super Nintendo in the other semi-final.

Other stats reveal that PlayStation 4 had more nominations at the open vote stage than all Sega consoles combined.

Meanwhile, GoldenEye 007 was the game most mentioned as the reason for voting for a console.

Game Boy was the most popular handheld, while the PC missed out on making the bracket by nine votes.
