Apple rolls out iMac with Retina display

Apple has announced the iMac with Retina display, a desktop computer with a 27-inch 5K screen, alongside its new iPads, Digital Spy reveals.

The machine features an eye-popping resolution of 14.7 million pixels, seven times that of an HD television set.

Under the hood, the new iMac features a 3.5GHz Intel i5 processor, a Radeon R9 graphics chip, and a 1TB fusion drive. Its chipset is upgradeable to a 4GHz i7 processor.

Measuring in at 5mm thin, the iMac with Retina display is the most energy-efficient desktop computer Apple has ever made, using 30% less power than it predecessor.

For those on a tighter budget, Apple also launched a new version of its Mac Mini, with a fourth-generation Intel Core processor, Intel Isis and HD Graphics 5000 chip, and PCIe-based flash storage.
