IFC Films acquires “The Sleepwalker” Sundance psychodrama

IFC Films has acquired Norwegian actress-turned-helmer Mona Fastvold’s debut, “The Sleepwalker”, which world-premiered in competition at Sundance, according to Variety.

Repped by LevelK, “The Sleepwalker” stars Brady Corbet, Christopher Abbott and Norwegian up-and-comer Gitte Witt.

An elevated psychodrama co-written by Fastvold and Corbet, “The Sleepwalker” centers on a young couple, Kaia and Andrew, who are in the midst of renovating Kaia’s secluded family estate. Their lives are violently disrupted upon the unexpected arrival of Kaia’s sister, Christine, and her fiance, Ira. And when one of the four characters goes missing, the three left behind are flung into upheaval trying to fill in the blanks.

Pic was produced by Karin Juhlsrud and Turid Øversveen for 4 ½ Films Norway, and co-produced by Julie Christeas and Schuyler Weiss for Tandem Pictures. It has been backed by the Norwegian Film Institute, Norsk filmdistribusjon, 4 ½ Film and LevelK, which will continue selling the movie at the AFM.

IFC Films will release it in the U.S. on Nov. 21.
