Lucasfilm Animation’s “Strange Magic” unveils 1st trailer

While the world awaits a glimpse of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm Animation has unveiled the first look at another world of magic and adventure with the first trailer for its animated musical Strange Magic, The Hollywood Reporter reveals.

The trailer, premiered by Yahoo! Movies, introduces audiences into an animated world of fairies, goblins and other magical creatures — who don’t seem to be able to get along with one another. “That was the ugliest creature ever seen! And it was naked!” one fairy exclaims about his run-in with a goblin.

Featuring new versions of songs from the likes of Heart, Deep Purple and Elvis Presley, Strange Magic is a musical fairy tale that director Gary Rydstrom compares to an unexpected predecessor. “I remember when Labyrinth came out and how exciting that was,” he tells Yahoo!. “This has the same vibe to me.”

Based on a story by George Lucas and with a voice cast including Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming and Evan Rachel Wood, Strange Magic will be released Jan. 23, 2015.
