Video game pioneer Ralph H Baer dies at 92

Video game pioneer Ralph H Baer has died, aged 92, according to Digital Spy.

The inventor passed away in his New Hampshire home on Saturday (December 6).

Baer is credited with the development of the first home light gun game Shooting Gallery.

His other contributions to the gaming world include Simon, a handheld game still available today.

He received the National Medal of Technology from President George W Bush in 2006 for inventing the home console for video games.

Unreal Tournament and Gears of War game designer Cliff Bleszinki tweeted his tribute to Baer, saying: "Thank you for birthing the lovely medium that has done so much for me personally and professionally."

Baer is survived by his three children, James, Mark and Nancy.
