Russia's Lavrov says "chance emerged to ensure peace in Ukraine"

The timeframe for the meetings of the Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk is being coordinated these days, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday, Dec 12, according to Itar-Tass.

“Now it is important that we find a way to resume the meetings of the Contact Group between the representatives of the Ukrainian leadership and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, with participation of Russia and the OSCE,” Lavrov said.

“Just these days the timeframe for holding the Minsk meetings is being coordinated, and we are taking active steps for the agreement to be reached as soon as possible,” Russia’s top diplomat said.

Russian Foreign Minister said a chance had emerged to ensure peace in Ukraine.

“With difficulties, a truce, a ceasefire have been established,” Lavrov said at a meeting with the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund participants.

“We have a common base for constructive movement towards resolving other issues, including Donbass’ economic restoration, and improving the political dialogue, which should finally lead to the constitutional reform in Ukraine with the participation of all regions and all political forces,” he said.

“Ukraine undertook such commitment in April,” Lavrov said.
