Armenia hosts first-ever Hour of Code int'l event

Ayb School initiated and hosted the international The Hour of Code event Dec 14. Organized in Armenia for the first time, the event was made possible through the joint support from VivaCell-MTS, UITE and Microsoft.

The Hour of Code event is a global movement involving more than 100 million students from over 180 countries. Around 45 thousand schools participate in the event, gathering technology, games and programming under one roof. The event is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of various programming languages and approaches, with participants not required any knowledge of programming languages.

The idea behind organizing the global event is grounded on the belief that every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st century career path. The only requirement is conversational skills in English and availability of a laptop or a tablet. Pupils of elementary schools have also shown interest in the event.

Any school can host an Hour of Code anytime, but the grassroots campaign goal is for tens of millions of students to try an Hour of Code during December 8-14, 2014, in celebration of Computer Science Education Week.
