Georgian Vice-Premier, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili told reporters in Yerevan on Wednesday, Dec 24 that Tbilisi is taking steps to prevent an increase in customs duties in the bilateral trade turnover, Tert.am reports.

“We are doing our best to harmonize our association with the European Union with Armenia’s decision to accede to the Eurasian Union. Before we start negotiating a new customs treatment, we are trying to keep the same customs duties that have been in effect so far,” Kvirikashvili said.

The sides have enough time to revise all the technical issues for Armenia and Russia to maintain active trade relations.

“Armenia being among our important trade partners, we’ll do our best to develop relations with the country,” Kvirikashvili said.

With respect to transit through Georgia, he said that the sides have opportunities of lateral cooperation and cooperation within the World Trade Organization.

“Transit is an important component of our trade,” he said.

Armenia’s Minister of Economy Karen Chshmarityan, in turn, noted that both Armenia and Georgia are benefitting from free trade agreements.
