“Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Birdman” top Art Directors Awards

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Birdman” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel” were the big feature-film winners at the Art Directors Guild’s Excellence in Production Design Awards, TheWrap reports.

“Guardians” won for Fantasy Film and “Grand Budapest” for Period Film, the two ADG categories from which Oscar winners are generally taken. “Birdman” won in the Contemporary Film category.

Of the three winners, “Grand Budapest” is the only one nominated for the Production Design Oscar this year. “Guardians” beat two Oscar nominees in its category, “Interstellar” and “Into the Woods.”

In the television categories, winners included “Game of Thrones,” “True Detective,” “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Silicon Valley,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Portlandia” and the 86th Academy Awards.

Director Christopher Nolan was given the Cinematic Imagery Award, while Lifetime Achievement Awards went to designers and artists Jim Bissell, Camille Abbott, John P. Bruce and Will Ferrell.

Presenters included George Clooney, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, Felicity Jones, Tony Hale and Margo Martindale.
