Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop crashes marginally less than iOS 8, according to a report, Digital Spy reveals.

Data compiled by Crittercism suggests that the Apple software crashes 2.2% of the time, compared to the rival platform's 2%.

Although the difference is too small to notice in practice, the results are surprising given that Android is traditionally the least stable of the two.

The study also suggests that iOS 8 is less stable than the previous-generation iOS 7, which only crashes 1.9% of the time.

Meanwhile, Android has increased its stability, with earlier builds KitKat and Ice Cream Sandwich both registering a 2.6% crash rate.

It was recently reported that Apple is prioritising stability and reducing storage demands with iOS 9, rather than focusing on new features.
