Chris Noth’s “After the Ball” romantic comedy release date set

Freestyle Releasing and Freestyle Digital Media have set April 24 as the theatrical and VOD release date in the U.S. for “Cinderella”-style romantic comedy “After the Ball,” Variety has learned exclusively.

Portia Doubleday (“Carrie”) stars as an aspiring clothing designer who goes to work for her father, played by Chris Noth (“The Good Wife”), as a retailer specializing in knockoff brands. Doubleday’s character must navigate around a duplicitous stepmother — played by Lauren Holly — and two wicked stepsisters, whose aim is to discredit her at every turn.

“After the Ball” is directed by Sean Garrity from a script by Jason Sherman and Kate Melville.

Production companies are Don Carmody Prods., Martinelli Prods. and Jane Silverstone Prods. in association with Telefilm Canada, Movie Central and the Movie Network and with the participation of the Ontario Media Development Corp. Producers are Don Carmody, Robin Crumley, Gabriella Martinelli, and Jane Silverstone-Segal.

Myriad Pictures negotiated the U.S. deal with Freestyle Releasing and is handling worldwide sales on the film. Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico is exec producing along with Emily Alden and Kevin Forester.

Pacific Northwest Pictures and TVA Films released the film theatrically in Canada last month.
