Tom Hanks co-producing movie version of musical “Beautiful”

A movie adaptation of Carole King musical Beautiful has been announced, Digital Spy said citing Broadway World.

Tom Hanks will co-produce the project with Gary Goetzman and Paul Blake, the lead producer of the Broadway hit.

The film will be based on the hit Broadway and West End musical, which tells the story of 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' singer King.

The musical charts the star's rise to fame, as well as her professional and personal partnership with Gerry Goffin and friendly rivalry with Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.

Douglas McGarth, who wrote the book for the musical, will create the film's screenplay.

Beautiful first debuted on Broadway in January 2014, and opened in the West End earlier this year.

The musical recently extended its London run up until February 13, 2016.

Sony's Michael DeLuca said: "Theatrical audiences both on Broadway and in the West End have responded to Beautiful - not only to relive Carole King's timeless classics, but to experience the ways they illustrate her triumphant and joyful life story.

"We're thrilled to be bringing this inspiring and powerful musical to movie audiences everywhere."
