“Frozen,” “Ping Pong” win top prizes at Tokyo Anime Award Festival

“Frozen” was named the Animation of the Year in the theatrical feature division at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival, a three-day anime industry event held March 21-23 in Toho Cinemas Nihonbashi in Tokyo, Variety reports.

Masaaki Yuasa’s “Ping Pong,” a table-tennis-themed series based on a popular manga of the same title, received the Animation of the Year prize in the television division.

Keiichi Hara, director of “Summer Days with Coo” and “Colorful,” won Anime d’Or prize for career achievement, being cited for “the power to bring innovation into animation, our times, the world and the future.” His latest film, “Miss Hokusai,” about the life and times of the daughter of famous woodblock print artist Hokusai, will open on May 9 in Japan.
