HBO renews "Veep," "Silicon Valley" hit comedy series

HBO has ordered more "Veep" and "Silicon Valley". The premium cable channel has handed out early renewals for its two critically-acclaimed comedies, bringing the Julia Louis-Dreyfus-starring political comedy and the tech geniuses-centered sitcom back for a fifth season and a third season respectively, according to AceShowbiz.

" 'Veep' and 'Silicon Valley' are terrific series, and I'm immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year," said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo in a statement released on Monday, April 13. "Along with 'Game of Thrones' and 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver', both of which have already been renewed for 2016, they give HBO a stellar Sunday night like no other."

Both "Veep" and "Silicon Valley" just returned with their new seasons on Sunday, following the fifth season premiere of "Game of Thrones".

The upcoming fifth season of "Veep" will mark the first time the show without series creator Armando Iannucci, who recently stepped down from his position as showrunner. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" executive producer David Mandel has been tapped to replace him for the fifth season.
