Armenian Patriarchate mass in Istanbul to feature ‘shared pain’

The Patriarchate of the Armenians of Turkey will hold mass on April 24 in memory of ‘those who lost their lives in 1915’.

In his speech at mass, Deputy Patriarch, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan will not use the term “Genocide” but will emphasize “shared pain”, Agos reports.

According to the report, the Patriarchate prepared a draft program for the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The mass will begin on the morning of April 24 at the Surp Asdvadzadzin Patriarchate Church at 9.30. As Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II declared to the public, those who lost their lives in 1915 will be commemorated as “Martyrs”.

However, the Patriarchate of the Armenians of Turkey will not join the bell-chiming ceremony that will be held at all Armenian churches across the world on April 23 to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
