Apple purchases LinX camera technology firm

Apple has confirmed that it has purchased camera technology specialists LinX.

As Digital Spy reports citing the Wall Street Journal, the iPhone maker paid in the region of $20 million for the Israel-based company.

LinX specialises in the development of miniature cameras for tablets and smartphones, meaning Apple could be planning to use the firm's skills to improve the cameras on board future iPhones and iPads.

The company's cameras are able to capture multiple images simultaneously and can handle low light situations, shutter lag and colour fidelity.

LinX's website states that it is "leading the way to DSLR performance in slim handsets".

When approached about the purchase, Apple responded with its usual statement: "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."
