Sundance breakout hit “Dope” unveils new trailer

A Geek will have his day in the new trailer released for Sundance breakout hit “Dope”, according to TheWrap.

The Rick Famuyiwa coming of age dramedy follows Malcolm (Shameik Moore), a geeky, straight-A student living in the Bottoms of Inglewood, California, trying to navigate life between bullies, drug dealers and bad influences.

All he wants to do is shatter cliches about his poor background and go to Harvard, but in order to get his dream girl, he gets talked into going to a drug dealer’s birthday party and goes on the adventure of a lifetime.

“Dope” co-stars Tony Revolori (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”), Kiersey Clemons (Amazon’s “Transparent”), Blake Anderson (“Workaholics”), A$AP Rocky, Zoe Kravitz and Chanel Iman.

Nina Yang Bongiovi and Forrest Whitaker produced the film, with Michael Y. Chow, Rick Famuyiwa and David Lonner. Co-executive producer is Sean Combs.

Open Road has set a June 19 release date for “Dope,” which it picked up at Sundance for $7 million.
