YouTube app retired on older hardware

YouTube is retiring an outdated version of its app in a move that may affect some pre-2013 devices, according to Digital Spy.

The move to Data API v3 leaves behind devices including first and second-generation Apple TVs, older smart TVs from Panasonic and Sony, and some connected Blu-ray players.

Apple mobile devices including iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, first-to-fourth generation iPod Touch, and the original iPad cannot be updated to the new app.

However, any Apple device running iOS 7 or higher will update to the new version of YouTube automatically.

Some of Google's own hardware has been affected, with Google TV versions one and two unable to support the new YouTube application.

YouTube is still accessible through the Safari, or any smart TV browser than supports flash or HTML5 on any device regardless of its age or operating system.
