Xbox One users to soon power on the console using smartphones

Xbox One users will soon be able to power on the console using smartphones, Digital Spy reports.

As part of May's Xbox update, Microsoft will add the ability to turn the console on and off using the SmartGlass app.

In a new video Major Nelson and Xbox engineer Richard Irving talk through a host of new features coming to Xbox One and the Xbox app on Windows.

Fans will be able to select more power options, including instant-on and energy saving modes.

Xbox on Windows 10 will receive the most attention, as Microsoft enables Game DVR for PC games, which gives users the chance to record clips and take screenshots.

Real name sharing makes its debut, while Xbox controller drivers are now included with Windows 10 and don't have to be downloaded.

Xbox Avatars are now available in Windows 10 and can be fully customised.
