Armenian Community of Iran Deservedly Held in Respect of Authorities
The visit of Chair of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) to Armenia is of high regional importance, Armenian Speaker Tigran Torosyan stated during a news conference. In his words, in spite of the religious difference, the relations between Armenia and Iran can serve as an example for all countries of the region. «There is a large Armenian Diaspora in the country, which is deservedly held in respect both of the authorities and the population. The community has an important role in the public and political life of the country and it is represented in the Parliament by 2 MPs. Both peoples also preserve each other's cultural legacy,» Torosyan remarked.

At that the NA Speaker noted that bilateral parliamentary ties yield to inter-state relations yet. He hoped for the state of the affairs to change. «For the first time within 15 years IRI Speaker visited Armenia and I hope that visits will be more often in the future. It is very important that the cooperation between the two states develops in strategic fields like energy security, expansion of trade and economic relations,» Torosyan underscored.
