Fortissimo Films has picked up rights to Vietnamese social drama “Yellow Flowers on The Green Grass”. The 1980s set picture about two brothers who are rivals as well as best friends is directed by Victor Vu, one of Vietnam’s most prolific and successful film makers, Variety reports.

The story is based on the hit novel “I See Yellow Flowers Upon The Green Grass,” by Nguyen Nhat Anh. It sees the pair vie for the attentions of the same girl and leads to a violent climax.

The multi-million dollar production is backed by Galaxy Media & Entertainment, one of Vietnam’s largest integrated movie groups with interests spanning production, distribution and exhibition. The film is currently in post-production and Galaxy plans an end of year, holiday season release. During Cannes, Fortissimo will show footage at its Croisette office.

“There is a whole new wave of cinema emanating from Vietnam that captures the energy, dynamism, introspective story-telling, and cinematic/technical sophistication of that society which is in transition. Victor encapsulates all of those trends and with this project,” said Michael J Werner, Fortissimo chairman.

The film is produced by Trinh Thanh Tam and Nguyen Cao Tung and executive produced by Galaxy’s CEO, Dinh Thi Thanh Huong, together with Le Huu Luan, and Phan Thi Le.
