Lorde updates fans on “exciting, scary” new album

Lorde has updated fans on the progress of her new album, which she describes as 'exciting' and 'scary', and also cites Robyn as an influence, Gigwise reports.

The Kiwi teen brought out her universally acclaimed debut album Pure Heroine in 2013 which gained the respect of artists such as David Bowie, hence the rumbling anticipation from her fanbase.

The singer took to Tumblr to address her fans, she explained: "I took a few months off at the beginning of this year, which was so great...and now i’m just getting into making the next body of work, which is very exciting and scary but SO VALIDATING"

Although, Lorde admitted the new material was in it's early stages, she dropped hints of what it would sound like by listing what she has been listening to in the studio, which included Lou Reed's 'Perfect Day', Nina Simone, Fleetwood Mac and Robyn's 'Dancing on my Own'.

The last one evoked a passionate reaction from the singer: "it was then when I realized I’m going to be in love with music for the rest of my life. it’s going to be the most important friendship I’ll ever have. I’ll never, ever leave it alone, because you can’t leave alone something like that." She assured fans: "know that I'm taking my time to make the new stuff as best as I can." The album is expected to come out later this year.

Lorde has recently been reported to have been working with regular songwriting collaborator Joel Little, who said of the new material: "We've written a couple of songs. We've not done a whole lot of production on it," Little said to Billboard. "We just want to make sure the songs are really good and try and experiment with some new things - just different beats and whatever occurs in the studio."
