CALIFORNIAN SENATE RESOLVED TO COMMEMORATE VICTIMS OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN OTTOMAN TURKEY ON APRIL 24
The senate of California has passed a resolution, according to which the 24th of April 2003 will be marked as the commemoration day of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. As reported by the Armenian Assembly of America, senator Chuck Puchigian stated that "the denial of fact of the commitment of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Turkey in 1915, which is apparent to the entire world, is a barrier for developing relations." The acknowledgement of this mass crime, in his words, will become in a sense a warning to rule out such crimes in the future. Within the coming 30 days the Californian Senate resolution will be submitted for consideration by the Committee on political issues. Let us remind that recently California officially recognized the Armenian Genocide in 1915-1923.
