Ahead of the Eastern Partnership summit in Riga, the European Union expressed readiness to ink a new package of offers, not limited to political sector, with Armenia.

The head of the EU delegation to Armenia Traian Hristea refused to reveal the details, however, noting that the Latvia-hosted summit may open up new opportunities for Armenia, RFE/RL Armenian service reports.

As Hristea further stressed, despite Armenia's refusal to sign the association agreement with the EU in 2013, the latter respects Yerevan's decision and continues its financial assistance to the country in the earlier agreed sectors.

According to Hristea, the EU is also following constitutional reforms initiated by President Serzh Sargsyan, and hopes for the ruling Republican Party to form wide political consolidation in altering the main legislation of the country.

Commenting on the Karabkh conflict, the envoy stressed the issue to be in the center of the EU attention. However, he found it hard to reply whether Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders will meet on the sidelines of the Riga summit.
