Fox, Sony back Oscar-winner Juan Jose Campanella’s “Entre canibales”

Fox International Channels Latin America and Sony Pictures Television are backing Oscar-winner Juan Jose Campanella’s upcoming series “Entre canibales”, a political revenge thriller produced by Argentine leading broadcaster Telefe, Variety reports.

A high-end TV drama, designed as two 60-episode seasons, “Entre canibales” premieres Wednesday May 20 on Telefe, and is scheduled to air Monday to Thursday every week.

FIC Latin America has taken a co-production stake in “Canibales.” Under the deal, FIC will launch each episode of the series across the region via its Fox Life network, one day after “Canibales” segs broadcast on Telefe.

Sony Pictures Television will distribute the TV series in both the U.S. Hispanic and Latin American markets.

Uruguayan channel Monte Carlo TV, which has also joined the series as co-producer, snagging Uruguayan broadcasting TV rights, will air “Canibales” from Thursday May 21 in primetime.

Helmer Juan Jose Campanella, winner of the 2010 best foreign language Oscar with “The Secret in Their Eyes,” and a regular director of episodes of U.S. skeins such as “House” and “Law & Order,” co-produces “Canibales” via his Buenos Aires-based outfit 100 Bares Producciones.

“Entre canibales” toplines Uruguayan actress Natalia Oreiro (“Clandestine Childhood”) as a woman raped when young who returns to extract revenge from the rapists, and reclaim the son which was fruit of their aggression.

Top-notch pan-regional cast includes Chile’s Benjamin Vicuña (“Profugos”) and Argentina’s Joaquin Furriel (“The Boss: Anatomy of a Crime”) and Eduardo Blanco (“Son of the Bride”).

Shot in 4k and neutral Spanish, “Entre canibales” fits into Telefe’s plans to up its ante on international productions, tapping more revenues from foreign markets.
