Animation Song of the Sea has been named Best Irish Film of the year at this evening's IFTA awards in Dublin, Irish Examiner reports.

The film - which is due out in Irish cinemas in July - is directed by Tomm Moore and is the latest work from Kilkenny-based studio Cartoon Saloon.

Comedy-drama Frank was one of the big winners of the night, with a Best Director award for Lenny Abrahamson and supporting actor award for Domhnall Gleeson. Best Director of Photography went to that film's James Mather.

The cast and crew of Patrick's Day will also be celebrating tonight, with a script award for writer/director Terry McMahon, and Best Lead Actor for Moe Dunford. Deirdre O'Kane won Best Actress for her role in biopic Noble. Noble's Sarah Greene picked up both the Best Supporting Actress and the IFB Rising Star awards.

On the TV side, Love/Hate was a big winner across multiple categories, while Aidan Gillen was awarded a statue for his work on Charlie.
