Before the days of Google and Bing there was Lycos, a forgotten search engine company that is now staging a comeback as a device manufacturer, Digital Spy reports.

The firm wants to break into wearable devices, and has announced a smart ring and a fitness tracker to get the ball rolling.

The Band and Ring are touted as devices that can replace traditional password security, unlocking your mobile device via NFC, although they do have other functions.

Lycos's fitness tracker comes with a handful of sensors on board to provide sleep tracking and heart-rate monitoring, while the Ring also lets users share contact information.

Nether device has any physical buttons, with users managing them via an Android app called Lycos Life, which doubles as a data-driven ecosystem for the product line.
