James Cameron praises "Terminator Genisys" in a featurette

Following an early screening of "Terminator Genisys", franchise creator James Cameron lends his support to "Terminator Genisys" in a featurette. Cameron is impressed with the film, saying it is "the third film" in the series, AceShowbiz reports.

"If you look at why the films became classics, they had characters that you liked. The new film, which, in my mind, I think of as the third film, we see Arnold take the character even farther," the director says. In the new film, the director is not involved in any way, saying that he is only "a fanboy" of the movie.

Cameron apparently loves the movie as it has a complicated yet unique plot. He admits that he likes an idea of how a protagonist character is transformed into a villain. "The idea of taking John Connor and flipping him to the bad guy. It's pretty cool, because you got a rift against expectation. It's all about the twist," the director explains.

The forthcoming movie might be a pleasure somehow for Cameron because the two previous sequels were terrible. Cameron has distanced himself from the franchise since directing 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". The director was not really satisfied and even felt disappointed with the two sequels, 2003's "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" and 2009's "Terminator Salvation". Christian Bale admitted the film didn't work, and recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger also said the film "sucked."

Besides featuring Cameron, the featurette shares lots of scenes from the movie, including showing the transformation of John Connor (Jason Clarke) into a baddie who fights against his own mother, Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke).

Schwarzenegger returns to the movie as the original cyborg. Alan Taylor ("Thor: The Dark World") serves as the director for this rebooted franchise while Dana Goldberg and David Ellison produce the movie. It is scheduled for a release in the U.S. on July 1.
