“Only Love Is Real” bestseller to get film treatment at Fox 2000

Fox 2000 has picked up Only Love Is Real, the bestselling non-fiction book about past lives from psychiatrist Dr. Brian Weiss, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Michael Petroni, the scribe behind The Book Thief, is on board to pen the adaptation that will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill. Temple Hill is the company behind hit adaptations ranging from The Fault In Our Stars to the Twilight series.

With Only Love Is Real, Weiss recounted how he was seeing two patients for past life regression therapy and came to realize they had been in love in prior lives. Fate, —and Weiss — brought them together again.

Petroni will use the book as a jumping off point for a fictional and dramatic love story centering on past lives.

Marisa Paiva will oversee for Fox.

The deal returns Petroni to Fox 2000, which was behind Book Thief, the Holocaust drama that adapted the novel by Markus Zusak that starred Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.

Petroni recently wrote and directed Backtrack, a supernatural thriller starring Adrien Brody and Sam Neill which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and to which Saban Films nabbed the distribution rights.
