Microsoft launches Office suite for Android smartphones

Microsoft has launched the latest mobile edition of its Office suite for Android smartphones, Digital Spy reports.

The three amigos Word, Excel and PowerPoint are included in the package, which came to Android tablets in February.

The free apps allow users to open, edit, and display Office documents on their handset, as well as access files stored on OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or Box.

An Office 365 subscription is required to access some of the software's features, such as the option to sync files between mobile and desktop.

Microsoft Office for Android phones will replace its previous incarnation Office Mobile and takes up 1GB of storage space.

The apps were released for Android phones in preview form in May.
