Samsung battery technology could double runtime

Smartphone battery woes could soon be a thing of the past thanks to breakthrough research by Samsung.

The company claims that its new technology could double runtime without increasing size, Digital Spy said citing Business Korea.

The new batteries are said to be made of graphene-coated silicon, a material that can hold more energy than the current graphite cathode power cells.

Users would only have to recharge their handset every other night, rather than nightly, and the technology could eventually find its way to other devices.

However, the report notes that the new batteries are unlikely to arrive on the market for another two or three years.

Samsung's latest smartphones - the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge - included software features for extending battery life, including an Ultra Power Saving mode with grayscale visuals.
