Google Doodle celebrates the New Horizons Pluto flyby

Thanks to NASA’s New Horizons probe, humans will soon see some of the most detailed pictures of the dwarf planet known as Pluto. A Google Doodle, created by Kevin Laughlin, shows a small illustration of the probe spinning around Pluto to honor its groundbreaking journey, Time says.

In reality, the probe is much bigger, weighing around one thousand pounds and traveling at 31,000 m.p.h.

But it’s a long jaunt across the galaxy — approximately three billion miles to be precise. It’s taken New Horizons nine years to reach its final destination.

NASA says New Horizon’s Pluto snaps will be invaluable to space discovery.
