Another Turkish Writer Accused of Violating Article 301
Writer Ipek Kalislar was accused of "insulting Turkishness". Kalislar in the authors of the book about the wife of Turkish State's founder Kemal Ataturk. In August the Ankara Court acquitted Elif Shafak, who was also accused in compliance of Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code. It was reported that Shafak used the term 'genocide'. The European Commission urges cancellation of the article as a precondition for Turkey's membership in the EU, reports Yerkir with a reference to RFE/RL.
